Whispering soul

Trying not to be proud
Trying not to be broken
Noticing both
With each word spoken
Asking for humility
Asking for grace
Without both of these
A soul is misplaced
Sitting and listening
Whispering soul
Uttering utterances
Utterly told
Through feelings and prayers
And songs and groans
A soul in wrapped in canvas
A body on loan
Wanting true freedom
Tasting it now
But without the ability
To swallow somehow
Remaining awaiting
A time yet to come
When unbound and open
Goodness will run
Lasting forever
Finally peace
Endlessly sunshine
Completely released

Truly Repent

 Being truly sorry
 Is a rare thing.
 Most of us
 Don't care about
 Our own sin.
 We spend
 So much time
 Our choices,
 Our lives;
 Hardly a soul
 Considers their
 Own lies.
 There's very few
 Who like admitting
 Their wrongs.
 We most like
 To live life
 To our own
 Selfish song.
 We have forgotten
 What it means
 To truly repent.
 We would rather
 Compare ourselves
 To the faults
 Of other men.
 Saying, "See,
 I'm better
 Than so-and-so..."
 But before a
 Holy God,
 How's that
 Going to go?
 Perhaps, we better
 Get on our knees,
 And face
 Our Maker
 Before death comes,
 And it's coming
 With speed.
 Perhaps, we ought
 To beat our chests
 And cry aloud
 Being broken
 For once,
 Instead of
 Being proud.
 Perhaps, we need
 To get alone,
 And bow
 Our own hearts
 Before His throne.
 It's time we sought
 Our own need
 For grace,
 And concern ourselves
 With our own
 Possible fate.

 Romans 2:1-5

Retaining Humility

 If only everything
 I read I retained,
 Then wouldn't I
 Have it made!
 Oh, to have the
 Power of recall.
 To somehow photographically
 Remember it all.
 I would have an upper-hand
 At all debate.
I would be able to really
 Set people straight.
 I would seek all knowledge
And wisdom until I had my fill,
 But perhaps that never
 Really was Your will.
 For I would puff up
 Prouder than a peacock,
 And lose track of the
 Greater things, like love.
 Maybe I could just
 Settle for remembering
 What I've already learned,
 So I could stop repeating
Mistakes to which I often turn.
 And the things that
 Matter most could stay
 Forefront in my heart,
 And I could go attempt
 To live a humbler part.

"As a dog returns to its vomit,
    so fools repeat their folly.
Do you see a person wise in their own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for them."
~Proverbs 26:11-13

"But knowledge puffs up while love builds up."
~1 Corinthians 8:1

Dusty angel

Leonardo Da Vinci ~ Head of a Young Woman with Tousled Hair

Like Cinderella,
Left lonely
In the world.
With the cruetly
Of others
For her stead,
And the cement curbside
For her bed.
Could she turn
Her roughened
Rosy cheek?
Could she still
Be pleasant,
Meek and sweet?
A golden heart beneath
Bone and breast
And like a
Dusty angel
Softly tread
Touching those
Who on her
Soul are etched.

Matthew 5

Second place

It’s    hard

Not   to   take   the   lead

Letting someone else set the speed

Especially when I love to be carefree

Darling,   little,   independent   me

But it’s good to learn to heed

To get a little humbling

To quiet myself

And try    submitting

Without                  lunging

Without                         leaping

Ahead but                            instead

Of constant                                      racing

Learning                                               to follow

Another’s                                                             pacing

Learning                                                                    the value

Of sharing                                                                                a space

Receding                                                                                                  into

Second                                                                                                                 place

“If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” ~Mark 9:35

This poem was inspired after walking my 6 month old australia shepherd/ border collie cross…

I think there is a wee lesson for me in it! 😉

I was going to
teach you something,
teach you something new,
so with my loaded shotgun,
I tried to show you how it’s done.
Using   all   my   e g o   s t r e n g t h,
I   primed   you   for   my   t r u t h,
but when I p u l l e d the trigger,
all  I  h e a r d  was  B  O  O  M !
as   on   my   back   I   f  l  e  w.
Laying there dumbfounded,
beaten,  battered,  bruised,
I wondered what happened
with the weapon…
I was so confused.
Then a sheepish feeling crept in,
it was me who needed a lesson.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” ~Matthew 7:3-4
