Mid year

Mid year

All warmth

And buzz

Can’t say

What was

A blur

Of colour

Of joy

And whatnot

Time goes

The sun rose

Who knows

How many

Highs and lows

Life stows

So I chose

To go to

The beach

And let days

And duties

Blaze away

Like a campfire

Until all I could

Count on a calendar

Was stars

Meteor showers

By the hours

And time

Was flowers

Petals falling

One by one

And cares

Were none

And relaxation

Lastly won

ZAO Family Adventure

two crazy moms
10518602_10154470997695215_4040527802458181435_owith two willing sons
and three guides
setting off to take
a mountain on
we bowed our heads
in commencement prayer
then started off
on the boardwalk trail

Paradise Meadows’
a sight of grassy knolls
us getting use to
our tall backpacks
and nordic poles
so far so good
an easy climb
then pausing for lunch
in just no time10536665_10152314477686378_1144532806311994349_o

Lake Helen MacKenzie
a lovely pitstop
where whiskey jacks
swoop and hop
a happy cloud
we spy aloft
in high spirits
again set off
strolling along
a rolling path
identifying unknown plants
like narrow leaved cotton-grass
the forest thickening
as we pass
there we see
a thorny devil’s club
we get a look
but do not touch
we just keep on
ascending up

by pretty streams
and bunches of lupine
this team of seven
continues trooping
an opening displays
lovely views
of Castle Crag
soon arriving
at Circlet Lake
setting up camp
boots unfastened
eating our dinner
yummy taco salad
staying up late with
loads of laughter
then hitting the hay
because there will be
more packing after10467146_10154470992520215_4891318234362968925_o

though day two will be
less overwhelming
we’ll still be trekking along
to Mount Jutland base
to do some exploring
and a swim in
Amphitheater Lake
listening to our voices
echo back, echo back
eating a delicious
hummus snack
reading Psalm 104
with eyes tear-filled
such wonder at the Lord
the blessing and power
of His Word and world
spending duo time
with just our sons
enjoying the quietness
and some fun
watching a water beetle
get swallowed
10549224_10152314481076378_2865345857004526173_omoments silly
moments hallowed

trailing back to an
earlier night of sleep
to prepare ourselves
for our biggest reach
still too excited
couldn’t shut our eyes
instead staying up
watching the night sky
hearing little creatures
scampering by
finding bits of trail-mix
accidentally dumped
finishing off a scattered nut

finally a guide coming
in dark for us to wake
freaking him out with
my cheshire face
coffee ready
we’re ninja quiet
spooky darkness
mildly enlightened
by odd morning fragrances
but we’re pressing on
to higher places
we are the first
to hit the slopes
things are brightening
just like our hopes
steep upward climb
to the first height
10531438_10154470995285215_7854702959237552332_oby breakfast time

absolutely enjoying
a most marvelous
sunshiney morning
overlooking Georgia Straight
and a divine sunrise
our views still widening
spying Denman and
Hornby Islands
so beautiful as the
sun’s rays highlight it
eating sweet potato
porridge mush
it was superb
with that dried fruit
a few running off
to do their
10494481_10152314477736378_4272493792347415805_omorning business
we set off again
when they’re finished

mountain pass opening up
to rocky ponds
we’re all recharged
and marching on
through less trees
subalpine lichen
growing free
cairns marking
the safest pass
slogging on over
skeeter rocks
learning how to
step secure
pausing for a photo op
10530471_10154470995855215_5502997482796750380_oMoat Lake below with
heart shaped land
and cabin spot

we sight a deer
overtop a cliff
it’s antlered head peeking
it’s hoof prints leading
the way across the first
patch of snow today
a crevice reveals
a dizziating drop
baring sheer cliffs
with waterfalls
like dragging nails
across a chalkboard
leaves arms and spine
chilled with prickled nerve
a guide diverts us
from the curve

10551670_10152314481541378_4153162934017165097_othe mountain looks
too fierce for
us to climb
at this angle it
blows my mind
over the next crag
again it opens up
to a wider path
than i thought
rocks galore
of greenish glow
ramble upward
a patina road
trudging on with
the heat beating down
there’s just no way
we’re stopping now
but we must
come to halt
to wire a boot that’s
10557509_10152314479926378_9159216018329230449_osole had flopped
we hope it will hold
from here on out

snowbanks flowing
straight off edges
the thought leaves me
rather breathless
wildflowers of
extraordinary design
dot color across the
near barren alpine
slow and steady
steps sideways
sticking feet into
footprints already made

a final push
nearly there
at utmost height
in amazement
we stare
and high-fives!
the thrill of it
such immense surprise
there’s more mountains?
on the other side
we see Vancouver Island’s
highest elevation
with our own eyes
before us in the distance
the Golden Hind

we revel in this
glorious feat
we scribe our names
10495326_10152314482501378_1110289478627699942_oonto the sheet
after taking in
the victory with
reverence and awe
we celebrate with
a delicious lunch
of salmon lox
as i have my
appetite so satisfied
i see something that brings
such personal delight
beneath me on
the place i squat
a ladybug has
shared my rock
an intimate gift
from God above
i’m overwhelmed
by His lavish love

we are all compelled
to give Him praise
it has been such
an epic day
things that truly
bless the heart
but those darn shoes
finally fell apart
10551449_10152314483026378_7797291706410291949_osuch awesome times
with our sons
memories for
a whole life long

tent view

out of the vents

of my tent

i see that

daylight’s nearly spent

i spy the bit of moon

bright but bent

i hear the buzz

of bugs that jet

i see the place

each star is set

and wonder why

i’m not tired yet?

i watch the tree line

turn dark and colourless

breathe in the sweet

refreshing nothingness

i know that today

was fully blest

i hope that i’ll

finally fade to rest

i saw a last

parting gift

from You i bet

that shooting star

that came-went

“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?” ~Psalm 8:3-4

Amaranthine Moments

She picks purple
IMG_9918It's her favorite colorIMG_9919
Today will be a truly
Perfect outing for her
 She will put her
 Hand to purple
 Pulling out all the bits
She can find them
Anywhere she looks
Dark ridges of perse rock
IMG_9916As she walks acrossIMG_9917
Turning over clams
With lavender bellies
 Dead crabs scattered
Their magenta backs
 Whole and cracked
Claws and legs unattached
Shuffling further down
 The shore exploring more
 IMG_9915Spying first a thistle toppedIMG_9912
With violaceous flowers
 Before her hoped for
 Blackberry bliss
 To fill her bucket with
 Plopping plump purple
 In a delicious heap
Sneaking a few to eat
 There's more than she
 IMG_9913Could possibly reachIMG_9911
 Still she accomplished
Her colorful feat
And wandering back
Down the beach
 Bends to pick up
 One last seaside plum
 An little slender bittium
 Her morning spent
 On red-blue treasures
 These amaranthine moments
 Are unmeasurable

Bent on Joy

Bent on catching fish
Young backs stooped over the lake
Happy girl and boy

Wee greenish minnows
Flit about with speckled backs
Fancy-tailed but coy

Their noses go bump
Darting between fingers’ grasp
Caught nothing but joy

Will catch up on some of them eventually… Hope all you lovelies who stop by are getting to gulp gobs of fresh air and stare in wonder at the world this summer! Cheers! <3)
