Girlish Seawalk

Standard

Head in the clouds
Heart in the sea
Toes dipping down
Into serendipity

Elbows in the breeze
Hands like anemones
Sticking to the things
That make her happy

Will sure and boulder strong
Ear tuned to seagulls song
Lungs filled freshest air
Endless dancing not a care

Eyes light and clear and true
Shimmering like the ocean’s blue
Hair whipping as the grass
A sunshiny tangly mess

Thoughts scattered like the sand
Pulled and pushed
At waves command

Harbouring not a squall
Nor vicious undertow
Glad to float wherever
Tides might flow

Mid year

Standard

Mid year

All warmth

And buzz

Can’t say

What was

A blur

Of colour

Of joy

And whatnot

Time goes

The sun rose

Who knows

How many

Highs and lows

Life stows

So I chose

To go to

The beach

And let days

And duties

Blaze away

Like a campfire

Until all I could

Count on a calendar

Was stars

Meteor showers

By the hours

And time

Was flowers

Petals falling

One by one

And cares

Were none

And relaxation

Lastly won

Final Flight

Standard

I got lost
In a four-poster bed
And while I
Rested wept and watched
The oceans long fingers
Play music along the shore
I noticed a single feather
Twitching clinging sticky
To the window
And I knew
Some little one
Had died
I went outside
Made a circumference
Of the house
And sure as
The sky was blue
A darkened junco
Laid legs up
Eyes closed
Stiff upon the
Frozen ground
So I did the thing
That seemed best
I picked him up
dark feathered head
With my leathered hands
And made my way down
To where I still
Heard music
And let his final flight
Be a part of
The bluest symphony

Frozen Footprints

Standard

 IMG_1466

Following some
Frozen footprints
In the sand
Awakened before
Life’s demands
Push me into
Going going
Always on the run
Having a
Frost-filled moment
With the rising sun
Slowly thawing
In the misty blue
The gulls are singing
In the orangish hues
My heart is freshened
With each breath of air
And I’m moved to
Live this day
More gratefully aware
And I’m thankful for
Frozen footprints

Seas and Stars

Standard

“Look, Mama!

This starfish is dancing!”

Five waltzing arms

Tentacles outstretching

Upon a ballroom of kelp

Bright dancers

My Angel scared off

Two rock doves

And an old crone

At a cross below

The 50th parallel

When I sat down

To eat an apple

I gave her the core

But it fell in the water

Particles sunk to

The tidal floor

Feeding some crabs

And snails galore

His face

Standard

I know
His face
Every line
And smile
Each glint39787_443342714119_7667686_n
And twinkle
In his eye
I know
Each freckle
And each flaw
I sense
The clenches
Of his jaw
I nuzzle
Close to his
Sandy stubble
Read on his
Dark brow
The look
Of trouble
I know
The weariness
Of his days
I feel
His joy
I feel
His pain
I see it all
In his gaze
I see it
Running down
His cheeks
In trails of
Salty tears
And though
Death’s shore
Washes him
In it’s waves
I know
In my mind
At anytime
I can just
Reshape
His face
