lacklustre

Standard
i like it when
the lustre wears off
when something becomes
less appealing
it's revealing
it tells true feelings
who or what is standing
still unabashedly loving
affections continuing
despite the diminishing
where lies the loyalty
unaffected by less popularity
unfettered by opinions
unwavering & persevering
holding on though hurting
non-flashy & dirty
uglier perhaps
but still found worthy
better somehow
through life's beatings
stronger somehow
after bleeding
scars that end up beauty
faithful & more truly
in love with the aging
deeper character
found in fading
hands still left holding
onto what's worth keeping
after the lustre wears off

threads of grey

Standard

splendid threads of grey
tie life together in
the sweetest ways
so thankful for
these maids
who have loved
for all their days
whilst natural colours fade
the truer beauty overtakes
soon in graves they’re lain
yet their purpose still remains
for their love has never changed
such wondrous threads of grey

renaissance body

Standard

embracing
your renaissance body
believing
you’re beautiful
dismissing
Hollywood’s throbbing
telling you lies
that aren’t
really true
every curve
of your body
is a part of your
entire debut
every freckle
and wrinkle
adds twinkle
that shines
more like
the star
that is you
every strand
whitely turning
is turning
you into
a gorgeous
somebody new
so embrace yourself
your beauteous
pulchritudinous
wondrous you
just love
your true self
love your
true true self

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” ~Proverbs 31:30

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.” ~ Psalm 139:14

Fifteen

Standard

IMG_8326

There are times
When I still feel
Like fifteen
Instead of
Thirty-three
Times when
I feel the sheen
Of sun and wind
On my cheeks
And though my
Bike and bones
Now mildly creak
As I whip through
Wooded trees
I am suddenly
Unaware of age
Feeling just
As lovely as
The breeze and
As bright as
The gleam on
Glistening stream

Aqua Eyes

Standard

Dear, old John

with the aqua eyes;

he looked like a statue of Plato

come to life.

He was so wrinkled,

and he was so white,

but he always smiled nice.

Still there was so much

hidden behind those eyes;

his smiles were only

a faint disguise because

if you’d ask how he was,

he would answer twice.

At first he said he was fine,

but you could tell otherwise.

If you listened longer,

you would recognize,

and if you listened longer still,

you would sympathize.

For this scraggley, old man

had lost his joy and pride.

And if you had the time,

he would vocalize

about his younger days

and the love he glorified.

His highschool girl

had become his wife,

and remained fifty-six years

by his side as he worked

 as a marine mechanic

which helped to clarify

his dirty hands and clothes

so often criticized.

But now he’s been left lonely,

bereft of his lovely wife,

agonizing deep down inside

as everyday he recounts

all the times he ever spent

with his lovely bride,

and how now that she’s gone,

the pain just intensifies.

While he tells you his tales,

he throws back the rye,

and in the end

that was the demise

of dear, old John

with the aqua eyes.

good to you

Standard

she’s off her kilter

will you jilt her

despite the fact

she’s been good to you?

she’s got no filter

and is getting weirder

still you know

she’s been good to you

it’s dead of winter

you’re bewildered

but remember

she’s been good to you

she’s not bitter

don’t be a quitter

heck, you know

she’s been good to you

love’s but a glimmer

a faded picture

but reconsider

she’s been good to you

yes, she’s withered

and time will not linger

but here’s the clincher

she’s been good to you
