grace in each moment

Standard

grace in each moment

even when i’m rudely awoken

and feeling like a bear

grace in each moment

even when provoken

and near pulling out my hair

grace in each moment

even when someone’s spoken

unkind words without care

grace in each moment

even when i’m feeling broken

and tempted to despair

how many times have i missed a chance

to react with grace in an instance

help me, God, to live and learn

to give grace to all at every turn

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” ~Colossians 3:12-14

…impulse…

Standard

…pa-Pump… pa-Pump… pa-Pump… pa-Pump…

impulse can be dangerous

yet impulse can be good

with it one could gain true freedom

or become a shackled fool

it could secure a fortune

or it could seal a certain doom

it could save a life

but it could kill one too

it could bring happiness through spontaneity — surprise!

or it could cause disaster and irreversible demise

so how about your impulse

what does your heartbeat choose?

can you trust your impulse?

where does your impulse make you move?

Black Stick

Standard

She keeps her secrets safely locked
Deep within a heart-shaped box.
Enclosed within a gilded cage,
Scrolls of poems one per page.
She only speaks poetic code
While living in a hermituous abode.
You never hear her speak out loud,
But she faintly hums when aroused.
An old crow sits upon her shoulder;
She’ll never let nobody hold her.
Dark hair hangs long across her face;
She’s a black stick in a flower vase.

Slow

Standard

IMG_3898

Slow
Unhurried
Taking the time
To be less worried
Breathing in deep breaths
Breathing out all trace of stress
Striving less, finding more enjoyment
Spending days with loved ones closest
Taking paths that seem the slowest
Becoming a more peaceful poet
Holding onto golden moments
Savoring with calm motions
Learning to be joy focused
Living life with devotion
Wondering at the world
Letting nerves unfurl
Being a sweeter girl
Because I know
It’s better

Screeched-in

Standard

Maybe it was
The screech
But I can’t
Get back to sleep
The moon is
Full and bright
And it’s my
Last night
On The Rock
As time tick tocks
By slower than the
Snails of Carbonear
The fun draws near
To a close
I do suppose those
Two moose standing
Square on the highway
From St. John’s
Could have frayed
My one last nerve
As we swerved
And they wobbled confused
Back through the spruce
Either way to be sure
I got the full tour
And now I’m a bonafide
Honorary Newfoundlander
From Cornerbrook
To past Gander
These rugged people
Oversaw it all
So now “long may
Your big jib draw”
