Playing pretend

Standard

Sometimes friends grow apart.
It makes me think, “Were we even friends at the start?”
Reality shows it turned into only obligatory politeness,
Rather than actual likeness.
The shoe didn’t fit and won’t be worn.
Tears fall and a heart feels torn.
Isn’t it silly to mourn over an imaginary friend?
With needle and thread can’t a heart mend?
I wonder why I invested so much in the end?
Especially since it was just pretend.

The Lonely Road to the Throne

Standard

We will all walk a lonely road every last one.
We will all perish under the sun.
Not one will escape, although we may wish.
Not one will escape. Each one will perish.
Each one, in the end, will draw their last breath.
Each one will taste their share of death.
Each one will face their Maker,
The Life giver, the Breath-taker.

But will we all acknowledge who You are?
Will we all humbly submit and give You our heart?
No matter how we’ve spent these lives we thought our own,
One day each one will stand before Your throne.

Yet, the road won’t be lonely
For those who’ve found the True Friend.
He’s promised to be with us until this age ends.
And to those who receive Jesus,
He calls His very own,
They will have an Intercessor,
As they stand before the throne.

Intimately Aquainted

Standard

I want to be known by You alone.
I want to be intimately acquainted.
I want to do Your will
And be found in You still,
Intimately acquainted.
Don’t want the worries and strife
to choke out The Word of Life.
Have I taken every pain
to in You remain,
Intimately acquainted?
It should not be a fight,
But a joy and delight to remain
Intimately aquainted.

I want to wrestle with You
Until I am blessed,
To believe like Abraham
When put to a test,

To be welcomed like Esther
As the King holds out His scepter,
To lay before His feet,
My kinsman redeemer to meet,

To hang the scarlet cord
And be rescued from this world,
With His blood above my door,
An eternal passover.

Invitation to Your presence
Is more than I deserve.
To come into the King’s court
Just to humbly serve.

Will never be ashamed of
This King’s sovereign reign.
Grafted into the Vine to remain,
Until He comes again!

Like a thief in the night,
With all power and might,
All evil to smite,
To set all things right.

Got to watch and pray
And love and obey,
Because it could be today
He wipes all tears away!

I want to be known by You alone.
I want to be intimately acquainted.
I want to do Your will
And be found in You still,
Intimately acquainted.
I don’t want the worries and strife
to choke out The Word of Life.
Have I taken every pain
to in You remain,
Intimately acquainted?
It should not be a fight,
But a joy and delight to remain
Intimately aquainted.

Joyous Considerations

Standard

Life consists of joys and sorrows,
Uncertainty in every tomorrow,
But all of the suffering of this present time
Cannot compare with His glory divine.

Have no worry ‘bout tomorrow,
You are worth more than the sparrow.
Take every thought captive to Christ, my friend,
Jesus will be with us to the end.

Chorus:
With joyous considerations,
We face our tribulations.
Standing the test ‘til He comes again,
Persevering for crowns He promises those who love Him!

As we walk through the valley of death,
The strivings of life leave us breathless.
Yet He stays and He comforts all of the way,
And we will dwell in the house of the LORD today.

Chorus:
With joyous considerations,
We face our tribulations.
Standing the test ‘til He comes again,
Persevering for crowns He promises those who love Him!

Bridge:
Maranatha… Maranatha…
Maranatha… Maranatha…
Come, Lord Jesus, come!

Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

Standard

Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

Gotta feed ‘em three square meals a day,
Tackle laundry heaps that on the ground lay.
Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

People to dinner, must get to the store.
Wow! I need to re-sweep this floor.
Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

The weeds in the garden are up to my ears.
Now I gotta make-up this face in the mirror.
Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

Dishes keep piling way up in the sink,
Someone ought to be helping I think.
Oh Martha, move over! Mary sit down!

Becoming distracted by all preparation,
Leading me nearly to hyperventilation.
Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

Upon my head I wear so many hats,
In my arms juggling more balls than that.
Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

Time outs for kiddos, but not for this mom.
When will I be still, know God, be calm?
Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

Stop finding yourself in the things that you do
Start spending some time with Him who is true.
Oh Martha, move over! Mary, sit down!

shower Power

Standard

mopping the floor with her tears
feeling the strain of the years
wondering at the face in the mirror
does she like the woman who appears?
what is it she really fears?

dreams that were larger than life
have shrunk in exchange for such strife
aggression released in a vegetable knife
yet she’s more than just a housewife
with subdued resentment often rife

she seem to be losing herself
like dust piling up on a shelf
is there anything there of great wealth?
no, it’s just a whole lot of filth
vanity in and of itself

from self-pity she ought to abstain
pull the curtain and let hot water rain
hoping God’s big enough to hear her complain
all worry starts to wane
the stress slips down the drain
feeling renewed once again

her spirit with water baptized
the bitter cloud begins to rise
good days spring before her eyes
a thankful heart leads to reprise
His grace enters with surprise

she finally looks up to her King
counts all the blessings He brings
to His promises she clings
all at once her heart sings
with Christ’s strength she can do anything

IDENTITY

Standard

INDENTITY

Pushing hard to be a success,
In the end Your truth suppressed.
Living life with something to prove
Is always rejecting Your love.

If I seek the praise of man,
That’s all the reward I gain.
Who do I think I am?
Who do I think I am?
Who do You say I should be?
Who do You say I should be?
Remake my identity.

Apart from You is nothing,
To the True Vine I cling.
In You I must remain,
Otherwise, life is vain.

Considering everything loss,
Finding Christ at the cross.
Salvation in repentance and rest,
In quiet trust now blest.

If I seek the praise of man,
That’s all the reward I gain.
Who do I think I am?
Who do I think I am?
Who do You say I should be?
Who do You say I should be?
Remake my identity.

With Christ flesh crucified
In His identity, I abide.
I want to be found in You;
No other life will do.
